Digital Drivers: Julieta Famá

In our new edition of Digital Drivers we interview Julieta Famá, Web Designer in Travel Perk.

How would you define design?

Design is a way to solve problems, communicate, transform, enhance and improve. It is key for the world that design exists because it has the mission of making it a better, nicer, more understandable, friendlier place. Design is my life and defines me in all aspects, not only in the workplace.

How would you describe your job position?

I am a designer in TravelPerk's  the Marketing department. Specifically, I work with the Growth team generating content for different digital platforms. We take care of thinking and planning out campaigns, events and different actions to reach a greater number of users and potential customers.

How would you define TravelPerk?

TravelPerk is an all-in-one business travel platform that allows travelers to manage freely their bookings while helping businesses keep track of expenses, saving time and money.

What's your favorite thing of working there?

Definitely what I like most is that I am doing new things and discovering a new way of working. I love working in a startup and having the possibility to interact with people from all over the world, it is a super interesting and dynamic environment.

And your least favorite thing?

It is the first time that I have to work in a team that is not formed by other designers and creatives. I've always liked that aspect of the traditional agencies where I worked before and it's something I miss. Being every day with people from other fields is a bit weird. Sometimes I feel that we don't speak the same language and that's a bit frustrating. But I am happy I am learning :)

You are Argentinean and have moved recently to Barcelona, how are you dealing with adapting to this new city?

Very good! I thought it would be more difficult for me to be alone and away from home but everything is very natural. It is a challenge to live in another country, I am surprised of myself and of how incredible Barcelona is. I love this city. It is a dream to live here. Although I obviously miss my family and friends a lot and I can't wait till they visit me!

What did you want to be as a kid when you grew up?

Painter, fashion designer, photographer, writer. I think I always knew I wanted to do something related with creativity.

What did you study? Did it help?

I've studied Graphic Design. I think I've learned a lot at University and it was also a beautiful phase. Everything I learned just started making sense when I began working and faced real projects. I have no doubt that solid knowledge is key.

Which was your first job?

My first job was with one of my best friends in a design and communication agency where we made Facebook and Instagram posts for different brands.

Is there any book, blook or media that helps you stay updated?

I constantly visit Brandemia, Behance, Pinterest and Dribbble. But the media that helps me the most is Instagram, absolutely everything happens there, everyone is on Instagram.

If you had to complete a course about anything related with design, what would it be about?

I would love to do a UX / UI design course. It is an area of the profession that intrigues me a lot. I have friends who are focused on that field and always recommend it to me. Although I also love art direction and I think I could do really cool things.

How do you imagine yourself in 10 years?

I never know what to answer when they ask me about the future but I do know that I never want to stop working with design, and that I want to travel as much as I can, whenever I can. So I think that in 10 years I imagine myself like that, with a job that allows me to be a bit of a nomad. I love knowing that being a designer allows me to work and travel.

What advice would you give someone who wants to be a designer?

I would tell them to become a designer asap. It's beautiful. You'll need patience. Don't let furstration win, creativity takes time and sometimes that time does not match our deadlines and that's not something bad. Just wait and see. Never stop looking at other designers, artists and photographers work, it is essential to find references.
